A Meditation on JOHN 3:1-8
As a practical exercise, let's take JOHN 3:1-8 and verses 3 and 6 in particular.
1. Before you start, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.
2. Read through the verses to yourself several times, making a note of anything you sense the Holy Spirit saying to you especially about verses 3 and 6.
For example, as I read verse 3 Jesus declared "I tell you the truth," I am struck by the fact Jesus also said in JOHN 14:6
"I am The Way, The Truth and The Life." So if Jesus says it's the truth, it must be.
Jesus says: "No one can see the kingdom of God unless s/he is born again."
Q Why is it impossible for us to see God unless we are born again?
Q What does that mean? Like Nicodemus I don't understand.
Now read verse 6 over to yourself several times.
"Flesh gives birth to flesh; the Spirit gives birth to spirit."
The New Living Translation translates these words as:
"Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life."
Jesus seems to be saying -
a. Physical birth gives birth to physical life.
b. The Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
The two kinds of birth and life are obviously different. One is natural; the other is supernatural.I think I'm beginning to understand, LORD.
