God Is Light 1 JOHN 1:5-7
It is impossible for darkness to exist where God is. No surprise then that the first creative act of God in creation is to say:
" Let there be light!" and there was light.
God's Promise of a Saviour ISAIAH 9:1-7
In the darkest days of Israel's history, God gave the prophet Isaiah a vision of a time when the Messiah would come to rescue Israel and deliver God's children from the darkness and oppression of their enemies.
"The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine........They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder......For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end."
Jesus The Fulfilment of Isaiah's Prophecy JOHN 1:1-9
Seven hundred years or so after Isaiah, another prophet named John "The Baptiser" came proclaiming the arrival of the Messiah.
"In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. "
