What Is Truth?
Truth Is Not A Concept: It's A Person
When Pilate asked Jesus "What is truth?" he spoke in the Roman language Latin and said: "QUID EST VERITAS?"
An anagram of these words in Latin is "EST VIR QUI ADEST" which means "IT IS THE MAN WHO IS (STANDING) HERE."
Truth is not a set of beliefs or ideas. Truth is the Person of Jesus Christ. To come to know Jesus is to come to know the truth of God.
To Know Jesus Is To Know The Truth
To know the truth is to come to know Jesus by being born from above by the Holy Spirit as Jesus said in JOHN 3:3-7.
Jesus promises to fill us with his Spirit when we surrender ourselves to him and says that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth.
Jesus Is The Truth That Sets People Free
In JOHN 8:31-36 we read:
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Jesus is the only one able to free us from our sin and fill us with God's truth through his Spirit and through the Word of God - The Bible. As we surrender our lives to him, we discover he told the truth when he said that he would set us free.
