Jesus Came To Set The Captives Free
At the start of his ministry, Jesus stood up in the synagogue in Nazareth and read ISAIAH 61:1-2.
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.
Then he rolled up the scroll and announced:"Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your presence."
Jesus' Commission To His Disciples
Before he ascended back to heaven, Jesus gave his disciples authority and power to do what he had done:
• PROCLAIM God's kingdom-rule, not satan's
• HEAL THE SICK
• SET THE CAPTIVES FREE (LUKE 9:1; 10:1,8-9;17-20)
Every born again Christian, who is filled with the Holy Spirit, is authorised to do what Jesus did. God the Father anoints us to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God and to demonstrate it by laying hands on the sick and setting individuals free from spiritual bondages.
Putting The Past behind Us
When we become Christians we may find that there are issues from our past that need to be dealt with in order to be able to follow Jesus.
