Jesus' Victory In Gethsemane MATTHEW 26:36-46
The temptation for Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane was the same as for him in the Judaean Desert - the choice of going:
• GOD'S WAY by being willing to drain the cup of God's wrath at human sin
• HIS OWN WAY by avoiding the agony of crucifixion on a Roman cross
Jesus' heartfelt prayer three times to his heavenly Father was a cry of anguish at the terrible choice before him.
"Father, if it is at all possible, please take away from me the cup of your divine wrath - but if that's not possible, Father, let your will be done rather than mine." MATTHEW 26:39, 42 and 44
The Choice: Going God's Way or My Way?
Just before Gethsemane, Jesus said to his disciples:
"The Ruler of The World is approaching. He has no power over me (lit.nothing in me). [He is coming] so the world may know that I love the Father and do exactly as the Father has instructed me to do." JOHN 14:30-31
The test is the same for us in our Christian lives as it was for Jesus.
