The Promise Of A Saviour
ISAIAH 62:1-12; ZECHARIAH 9:9; 14:1-9; MATTHEW 21: 4-6; 1 TIMOTHY 6:13-16; REVELATION 17:14; PHILIPPIANS 2:9-11
All through the Old Testament we see the Jews looking for a Saviour to deliver them from their enemies. This Messiah - One Anointed by God with the Holy Spirit - would deliver the Children of Israel from their enemies and bring in God's eternal kingdom-rule on earth in Jerusalem, the City of David, as its capital.
God Makes A Promise To Jerusalem
The LORD has made this proclamation to the ends of the earth:
"Say to the Daughter of Zion, 'See, your Saviour comes! See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.' "
They will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD; and you will be called Sought After, the City No Longer Deserted.
Jesus' First Coming as Suffering Servant ISAIAH 53:1-12
It was not quite the picture of a warrior king they were looking for. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city acclaimed him as Messiah. Five days later they were shouting "Crucify him! Crucify him!" when Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor offered them the choice of saving Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, or Barabbas, a convicted terrorist due to be crucified with two accomplices that afternoon.
Jesus' Second Coming as King of kings & LORD of lords
REVELATION 19:11-21
When Jesus returns it will not be as a Suffering Servant but as King of kings and LORD of lords. This time he will appear not on a donkey but on a white charger at the head of an army of angels to destroy the enemies of God and to deliver all those who have refused to bow to any other king but Yeshua ha Mashiah.
We see a picture of this in REVELATION 19:11-21
In PHILIPPIANS 2:8-11 Paul says that "at the name of Jesus everyy knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is LORD to the glory of God the Father."
