God Is Light: The Holiness of God & The Sinfulness of Human Beings
God is a holy God who hates sin but loves sinners.
Probably the best picture of God's holiness is by the apostle John.
1 JOHN 1:5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.
It’s impossible to look at the sun for even a few seconds without permanently damaging your eyes or becoming blind. So imagine what it would be like for us to try to look at God in all his glory, shining like the sun in its full strength, day and night, non-stop for a whole week.
That’s the picture we get in ISAIAH 30:26 and ISAIAH 60:19.
In REVELATION 22:5 we read: There won’t be any night in heaven and they won’t need the light of lamps or of the sun because the LORD God himself will shine on them.
Sinful Human Beings Have A Problem Approaching A Holy God
I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy. I am the LORD who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God, so be holy because I am holy. LEVITICUS 11:44-45.
Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the LORD your God. Keep my commandments and follow them. I am the LORD who makes you holy. You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own people. LEVITICUS 20:7-8 and 26
For……………..without holiness no one will see God. HEBREWS 12:14
